Restorative poses help relieve the effects of chronic stress. The use of props provides a completely supportive environment for total relaxation. Each restorative sequence is designed to move the spine in all directions. These movements illustrate the age-old wisdom of yoga that teaches well-being is enhanced by a healthy spine.
Restorative Yoga is a part of the deeply scientific, well principled philosophy of Iyengar Yoga. Taking certain Iyengar Yoga Poses and supporting the poses with an array of props from eye pillows to bolsters. Dr. Cole and Judith Lasater PHD are both Senior student of Iyengar, and with his permission they separated the principles of teaching the supported poses to facilitate different healing. Judith Lasater put together different supported poses for insomnia, menopause, pregnancy, general relaxation, back issues, etc. The belief as that the spine should move in every direction in a practice in a supported way, and that every practice should be equal and have an inversion, spinal twist, backbend, back opener, hip- opener, etc. |
